Howard Kurtz criticizes Jason Collins over former girlfriend, engagement and has article pulled, now he quits

Howard Kurtz, the longtime media critic, is departing as the Washington bureau chief of The Daily Beast and Newsweek, the head of those publications said Thursday. While the exact reasons were not given, Kurtz is battling his employer after his recent article was pulled.

Kurtz  wrote about the basketball player Jason Collins, who came out as gay in a Sports Illustrated article, criticizing Collins for not admitting in the article that he had once been engaged to be married.

Collins mentions the engagement in the article, saying “When I was younger I dated women. I even got engaged. I thought I had to live a certain way. I thought I needed to marry a woman and raise kids with her. I kept telling myself the sky was red, but I always knew it was blue.”

While the date sounds far into the past for the 37-year-old NBA player, the engagement was actually broken off ONLY 4 years ago in 2009. (MORE HERE)

The “error” made it appear as if Kurtz had not read the material, and he became the target of gleeful bashing on Twitter. The Daily Beast retracted the post on Thursday.

“This is not a reaction to the Jason Collins story or the Daily Download situation,” said a staff member at The Daily Beast, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the organization wanted Ms. Brown’s statement to be its only public comment.

“It’s been apparent for some time that Howie has a lot of other irons in the fire,” the staff member said.

Mr. Kurtz did not respond to a request for comment. In a Twitter message posted about an hour after his exit was reported, he wrote: “I’ve enjoyed my time at the Daily Beast but as we began to move in different directions, both sides agreed it was best to part company.”

He added in another message, “This was in the works for some time, but want to wish all my colleagues continued success with a terrific Web site.”

I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH Howard Kurtz’s SITUATION. BUT, IT IS UNFAIR FOR Mr. Kurtz TO BE SUBJECT TO ANY TYPE OF RIDICLULE – MERELY BECAUSE LIBERAL MEDIA IS HAVING A “LOVE-IN” WITH, Jason Collins.

AS A NEGRO MALE-HOMOSEXUAL, I AM QUITE FAMILIAR WITH SOME OF MY “FLOCK’S” NEED TO PURSUE HETEROSEXUAL RELATIONS IN ORDER TO RETAIN blackness. I THINK Mr. Collins REALIZES HIS FRIENDS ARE – NOW – IN THE gay camp; SO, THIS HETEROSEXUAL ENGAGEMENT FROM FOUR YEARS AGO HAS BECOME AN EMBARASSMENT DUE TO gay-rights activists’ NEED TO SHOW HETEROSEXUALS THEY ARE PSYCHOLOGICALLY “SOUND.”

NONE OF THIS SITUATION SHOULD BE LAID AT Mr. Kurtz’s feet.

FIRST, I WANT TO SAY I AM COMPUTER ILLITERATE AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW INTERNET SEARCH-ENGINES WORK. BUT, THIS IS SOMETHING WHICH REALLY BOTHERS ME.

I AM THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO GOES TO SEARCH ENGINES ON A DAILY BASIS AND TYPE IN MY NAME, SO I CAN VIEW MY COMMENTARY AND CHECK FOR REPLIES. I CAN NOT FIND THE DIRECT LINK FOR THIS Howard Kurtz STORY. BUT, I SEE OTHER Global Dispatch ARTICLES WHICH STATE IN THE DESCRIPTION THAT I COMMENTED ON Mr. Kurtz’s SITUATION. SO, I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED, “Who is trying to protect whom?,” IN THIS SITUATION. SINCE MOST AMERICANS BELIEVE THE MEDIA HAS A LIBERAL BIAS, AM I TO ASSUME INTERNET “WATCHDOGS” WANT TO PROTECT Jason Collins BECAUSE gays ARE, NOW, IN STYLE? AND, “KICKING Mr. Kurtz TO THE CURB” WILL HELP TO MAKE SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LEGAL IN ALL FIFTY STATES? WELL, AS A TENNESSEE RESIDENT, gay-rights activists HAVE “A LONG ROW TO HOE” BEFORE ARKANSAS, MISSISSIPPI AND TENNESSEE JOIN THE FREAKSHOW.

ANYWAY, I WANTED TO “GET THAT OFF MY CHEST.” INTERNET SEARCH-ENGINES ARE THE “SECRET” BRANCH OF POLITICAL PROPAGANDA.
