How to Market Your Business Consulting Services

The term “business consulting” is often times used in the public discourse, yet few people can tell what it really refers to. There are even some consultants who can’t offer a proper definition of this concept. The definitions found on Merriam-Webster are too broad as well, so this may indeed be an issue. Lots of business consultants are independent, and as such, it is essential for them to market their services. And let’s see how!

  1. Grow your entrepreneurial spirit.

One starting issue could be the fact that many business consultants don’t actually regard themselves as being consultants or even entrepreneurs, but contractors. It’s easy to understand, since many providers start out by working for someone on a contract. And since you’re working for yourself, you are basically an entrepreneur.

2. Use modern techniques.

One tradition in marketing is to use the word of mouth. The strategy is simple: the more people hear about your business from people they know, the more likely you are to get customers. However, today there are lots of modern ways to make people hear about you: website, social media, ads etc. You can also get some inspiration from other existing companies, such as a Brisbane marketing consulting company, and learn from their tactics.

3. Define the target audience.

It’s hard to promote something when you don’t know who you’re selling it to. That’s why it is essential to know your target audience. Once you decide who you’re selling your services to, you can start investigate who are they exactly. For instance, we know that young people spend a lot of time online, so online marketing could be the solution for you.

4. Networking is not out of fashion.

It is still useful to do some networking. Even though business does not evolve in the same way it did ten or twenty years ago, networking is still helpful. However, nowadays things are simpler from this point of view, since the Internet helps you get to people in your domain and know them better. So you just have to mind your own business and promote yourself, and naturally, there will appear a network of acquaintances which can prove to be very valuable.

5. Control your working conditions.

If you are already working in a company, whether in this domain or not, you might want to test the waters first. It’s not a bright idea to quit a safe job just to get adventurous. You can start off by working as a freelancer and so, you would have control over your working conditions. Depending on the results, you can decide if you want to invest full-time in this possibility or get back to your job.
