How to Help Your Loved One Get Treatment for Drug Addiction

Drug addiction can never do you any good.  It can manipulate your thoughts, your actions, and your behavior.  Taking illegal substances, in small or large amounts, can definitely make a huge impact into how you cope with life.  Thus, if you know someone who needs help, below are steps you need to do in order to be of assistance.

Be with that person as much as you can.

This is to show to her that she has a real friend.  You see, drug abusers didn’t become drug abusers completely out of nowhere.  You need to learn that primary reason why she chose to get high.  The little information you get when you have a conversation with her will also help you to get to the root cause of the problem and address it properly so she would not resort to drugs anymore.  Get as many facts as you can.  You’ll need them to do the next step.

Ask for help.

You can’t help your friend alone, especially without expert psychologists and therapists.  With this, you need the assistance of drug addiction treatment centers, which are equipped with health professionals, treatment programs, and the right tools to effectively treat drug addiction.  These centers offer several powerful drug addiction treatment programs for different cases of addiction.  Your friend will be:

  1. Assessed in order for the medical expert get the right approach to treat addiction.  Assessments include medical and psychiatric evaluation, cognitive testing and retaining, pharmacogenetic and toxicology testing, and brain wellness.
  2. Given the right treatment elements such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Brief Strategic Family Therapy, Family Therapy, Neurofeedback, and so much more.
  3. Assisted in times of withdrawal and relapse.
  4. Given time to be with her closest family members and friends.

Conduct an intervention.

If she refuses to get help, you need to make effective convincing steps in order to motivate her to get treated.  Consider the fact that she’s afraid and has fears of trusting people.  Give encouragement and reassure her that she will be protected inside drug addiction treatment centers.

Know that the first attempts will be tough as a rock, but don’t give up.  This is the time that she needs you more.  If it needs you to gather her family and closest friends in order to show support, do it.  Or better yet, if you think that you’re not the right person to be in the position of giving the support, or that she does not trust you yet, have someone bring her to a professional.  Sometimes, she may not be comfortable showing her weaknesses to her friend or family member.

How to look for a substance abuse treatment center

While there are hundreds of treatment centers, it is important that you ask help from those that can offer effective treatment for drug addiction.

The rehab center should offer outpatient and inpatient treatment, so she can still associate with people who can give her support on a regular basis.  It must also have a wide array of effective treatment programs designed for different cases and severity of the addiction.  Medical professionals who will handle and take care of the patients must be licensed and certified to ensure the safety and protection inside the rehab center.  And lastly, it must be equipped with facilities and equipment that can provide security and successful healing to patients.

Do not forsake people who have been caught in the grip of drug addiction.  Rather, help them, introduce them to drug addiction treatment programs, offer love and support, and encourage them to be better for themselves and for everyone they love.
