How to boost your career

Your job takes up a huge section of your lifetime, so if you are stuck in a job that you don’t like, it is time to take some action. Whether you can’t stand your boss or you are having sleepless nights thinking about the next day, you don’t have to feel this way. Working out a plan to change career or move up the ladder will be the best thing you ever do. Even if you are just bored and you need a new challenge, don’t waste any more time, start planning your next career steps.

First of all, you need to think about the type of role that you want to go into. If it requires extra skills and qualifications that you don’t currently have then your first task is to gain them. You can easily complete an online course that will help you to obtain the relevant qualifications for most jobs, so do some research and find out what is available.

Maybe you want to set up your own business? Get support and guidance from the government website and develop a business plan to help you to decide if you want to set up on your own. If you need a business line of credit or other types of finance, do the necessary research, regardless of the type of company you are looking to set up, from trucking to fashion, you can find a loan to suit your needs.

Before you commit to anything like expensive course fees, check what the availability is like for the job that you have chosen. If you want to become a teacher, make sure that there are actually jobs available in the subject that you choose. You can search jobsites to gauge how many jobs are coming up. The last thing that you want to do is spend time and money getting qualifications if you then can’t get the job you want.

You can boost your current skills using online tutorials and even YouTube videos. Say for example, you wanted to get into graphic design, you could teach yourself the basics of Photoshop or other design packages that will help you get into graphic design. You can sign up for online resources like Alison.com to help you to develop new skills that will get you closer to your dream job.

If you are applying for new jobs, make sure that you update your resume for every application. If a recruiter sees that you have used an out of date resume they will assume that you aren’t very passionate about the job you are applying for. Use the job requirements listed in the advert to tailor your resume so that it gives relevant examples of all of the key skills.

It is very important to be honest in your application, as if you state that you have experience in a particular area and they ask you to go into further detail in the job interview, you will blow your chance. It is much better to be honest and if you have all of the other skills and experience that they are looking for then they may be happy to train you up in the area.
