‘Homeland’ season 3 hints at Brody manhunt as the Damian Lewis absence explained
Showtime released a new Homeland teaser for its season three teaser trailer, which gives viewers a heads-up on at least one of the series’ upcoming story lines: the search for Brody (played by Damian Lewis). Watch it below.
Lewis won’t be seen in the first two episodes of the season, screeners of which were provided for critics. It baffled those in the room (according to Deadline), and is probably unprecedented, that an actor who won the Emmy for lead actor in the drama should simply not appear in the first pair of episodes of the subsequent season.
Co-showrunner Alex Gansa explained that the Brody disappearance is strictly a function of the story and shouldn’t be interpreted as indicative of the actor’s participation in the show beyond episode two. “It’s about where the story was taking us,” Gansa said.
Homeland‘s season two ended with a terror attack (pegged to Brody) that obliterated the U.S. intelligence apparatus, and season three opens during the aftermath, with a global manhunt crying for the head of “terrorist” Brody. Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) get their personal and professional lives back on track, while trying to survive the political and media maelstrom surrounding the attack and search.
Brody’s voice can be heard in the teaser, saying “Does Carrie know I’m here?” and “Just need to get my strength back.”
Homeland returns Sept. 29.
