‘Hercules’ star Kevin Sorbo credits Billy Graham revival for salvation

During MegaCon in Orlando I had the honor of spending a few moments with Kevin Sorbo, star of TV’s “Hercules” and “Andromeda.” After discussing several films from his long resume, including his upcoming film (“Soul Surfer” – opening April 8th), we shifted gears to a family film titled “What If”.

Shying away from another film which had profanity in the title, Sorbo pointed at 12-year-old DOB writer Sierra Jones warning: “Now, don’t you say that.”

We offered some reassurances that she wouldn’t and she was an obedient Christian and he perked up saying: “So am I.”

At that moment a different story began.

While thirteen back in his hometown of Minneapolis, he attended a large revival featuring Billy Graham.

“There must have been 50,000 people there”, says Sorbo.

“I went down front at the (altar) call, got saved and even met (Reverend) Graham. Only about 20 people got to meet him.”

We were really impressed by his testimony and his pride in sharing his salvation so openly.

Sorbo took home the 2010 Most Inspiring Performance Award from MovieGuide, for his role in “What If”  proudly announcing that he “beat out Denzel Washington.”

Kevin Sorbo hasn’t been silent about the need for Christian values in Hollywood.

“Hollywood likes to put out their own message out a lot of times, and that message isn’t the best one for everyone,” he told The Christian Post a couple of weeks ago. “If you keep saying two plus two equals five over and over again, then that is what people are going to think. Maybe it does equal five if we keep changing the definition of what’s normal and what’s right and what’s wrong.”

“So it’s really up to the people to send a message to Hollywood and start supporting movies like these as opposed to movies that show only the dark and negative side of life.”

Amen Hercules.

It’s always a treat to chat with the guests at conventions like MegaCon, but it’s extra special for  find a celeb who is so vocal about their spirituality – thanks again Kevin Sorbo.
