‘Hellboy’ reboot with David Harbour, Milla Jovovich as Blood Queen renamed

Hellboy will be back, but this time without the subtitle. Hellboy 3, sometimes called Hellboy III, was officially called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen with David Harbour (Stranger Things) set as the titular character and Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich cast as the villain.

MovieWeb reports that a Lionsgate representative says that the title is just “Hellboy” now:

“The official title is just Hellboy. The film is considered a reboot of the 2004 Hellboy, and is going by the same name.”

In 2004, fans got Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy and in 2008 we got the sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army. With the DVD market drying up, there wasn’t the funding for Hellboy III and the film rights have now moved on.

The R-rated comic book film has been picked up by Lionsgate, adding the same creative power they put behind John Wick and Crank as well as R-rated superhero film Punisher: War Zone.

Hellboy already has its comic book fans, but in order to make the franchise more successful than Del Toro’s movies, Lionsgate will have to appeal to people that weren’t interested before.

Filming on Hellboy is slated to begin this fall.
