‘Hannibal’ season 3 news: Gillian Anderson series regular, ‘Hannibal Rising’ story begins

NBC’s hit show Hannibal will be back in Spring 2015 for their third season and Hannibal Lecter world will take a time jump, a year after season 2 and have Gillian Anderson appearing regularly.

According to TV LineGillian Anderson Hannibal season 3 photo, Anderson will return to the show as a full-on series regular, but fans get little insight into the mysterious season three. As the final act closed, Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal Lecter sliced, stabbed, and/or gutted three people, including Hugh Dancy’s Will Graham, Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford, and Kacey Rohl’s Abigail Hobbs.

Caroline Dhavernas’s Alana Bloom took a fall out a second-story window, which means the fates of roughly 95 percent of the show’s cast were left hanging in the balance as Hannibal departed for Europe with Gillian Anderson’s Bedelia du Maurier at his side.

The Season 3 premiere will feel like “a pilot for a new series starring Mads Mikkelsen and Gillian Anderson,” series creator Bryan Fulller teased during the show’s Comic-Con panel in July. While Will and Jack are presumed to survive their wounds, little else is certain.

Hannibal will also take a step back from its FBI element, which will make it easier to remain vague about what happened after the events of the finale—at least at the outset. The current plan is to address the gap between seasons in Episode 4.

“Season 3 is going to be a lot of fun because it’s going to be taking a lot of disparate elements from the novel Hannibal Rising and the novel Hannibal and mashing them up together as part of the thrust of the season,” Fuller said.

“It’s going to be fun to bastardize two novels into one sort of Frankenstein season. I will brace everybody right now: We’re significantly changing the Hannibal origin story from Hannibal Rising.”

Fuller has also stated his intention to revisit the Vergers.

Of course, that’s not to say that they’re going to be falling into bed — I’ll leave that to the online community.”   Fuller expounds on the fandom as the show heads into season 3. “[Fan fiction writers are] doing what we’re doing with the show, because the show for me is very much fan fiction of these characters that I adore. So that’s why I’m very respectful and appreciative of fan fiction and fan art that positions these characters in ways you wouldn’t see them on the show,” Fuller says.   The interview confirms many thoughts from the show and what the impact of Hannibal Lecter really is.   “Basically, anybody who has sat at Hannibal Lecter’s dining room table and had a non-vegetarian meal has eaten people” and on the guidelines NBC Standards and Practices sets for him so he can get his gruesome show on air — “keep things in the shadows, dial the color of the red down so that it’s darker; the brighter it is, the more upsetting it is for the viewer.”   More recent news and Gillian Anderson’s upgrade to regular – HERE […]
