‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star Dave Bautista to play Kurgan in ‘Highlander’ reboot
Summit’s Highlander reboot may not have cast MacLeod, but it may have found its Kurgan. A new report indicates Dave Bautista, of Guardians of the Galaxy, a role in the new Bond film and WWE fame, could be stepping up to play the main antagonist.
Latino Review says “Bautista is going to play the bad ass barbarian role of THE KURGAN in Summit’s Highlander reboot for visual effects artist turned first time director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan.”
It’s worth noting that LR broke the news of Bautista’s casting in Spectre, the new Bond film, as Mr. Hinx.
The original Highlander from 1986 centered around an immortal Scottish warrior (played by Christopher Lambert) locked in an age-old battle for the Prize. The role of brutal, bloodthirsty Immortal Kurgan was played by Clancy Brown.
“We have to find that younger emerging guy, and surround him with a strong Kurgan, and an actor who shines as Ramirez the way Connery did in that film,” director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan said previously.
The project has been bouncing around for a few years with several different directors attached and now has Tom Cruise rumored to be interested in the Ramirez role.
Bautista is also set to play the villain in the upcoming Kickboxer remake.
There is no release date or production set, but stay tuned as the film appears to be getting traction.
