‘Gotham’ get a full first season at Fox, Joker coming and new photo released

Just days after the trailer is released, Fox confirms that a full of Gotham has been approved and creator Bruno Heller confirmed more details, including the inclusion of the Joker.

Gotham cast photo“The stories have to be as large and compelling as the city it’s set in. That’s not to say that you couldn’t do a straight-up police procedural. But, for instance, because we are following the villains as well as the police, you’re already breaking out of that procedural mold.”

Some of the rogue gallery already have fans excited.

Obviously, the Penguin, Riddler, young Catwoman, Alfred. Possibly Harvey Dent. Poison Ivy. Um … and then there will be others, but I hate to — I’m so used to doing a police procedural, so I’m used to telling, “Next week he’s going to go there.” With this, it’s very much storytelling. So I would be remiss to tell you who will show up when. I will say we’re not going to skimp on giving people the characters they want and expect from Gotham. But when and how they’re going to show up is half the fun. Penguin is one of those guys that, as soon as you see him, you go, “Oh, that’s the Penguin.” It would be hard to disguise him as somebody else.

Star Ben McKenzie tweeted the first photo of the cast together in a cool new photo. Heller mentions The Killing Joker in the EW interview before confirming the Joker.

He’s the crown jewel of the Batman villains. He will be brought in with great care and a lot of thought” and on the character in the wake of Heath Ledger’s great performance.

So while that is a serious and valid note, you can’t get into doing this without going there. That was a wonderful performance and — apart from everything else — wonderful make-up. And we should try to live up to that. It will be a different character. It’s certainly going to be more Heath Ledger than Cesar Romero. But like I say, all of these people are real people with feelings and emotions and history and parents. I just build from that.”

The cast features Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock; Jada Pinkett Smith as the new character Fish Mooney; David Mazouz as young Bruce Wayne; Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald “the Penguin” Cobblepot; Camren Bicondova as Selina “Catwoman” Kyle; Erin Richards as Barbara Kean; Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth; and Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen.

Gotham is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.
