‘Goosebumps’ sequel set for 2018, Jack Black likely to return

Goosebumps turned out to be a leasant surprise of 2015 and now the film will get a sequel. Sony announced the follow up film in April, but now Goosebumps 2 gets an official 2018 release.

The intense film with Jack Black as lead was a big audience grabber and co-stars Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, and Ryan Lee did a great job.

Director Rob Letterman is set to return for the sequel with Darren Lemke writing the script, penning the screenplay for the sequel.

Collider predicts the film will get pushed back to October setting up a “must-see movie for kids” ahead of Halloween.

“If they play their cards right, they could easily turn Goosebumps into an October franchise that becomes a must-see movie for kids who are gearing up for Halloween.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Goosebumps 2 ends up getting pushed back. The first film did impressive numbers by being a PG-horror film released around Halloween, making $150 million worldwide off a $58 million budget,” Collider stated, noting that January is usually a dumping ground of subpar projects.

No cast has been announced, but Black is certain to return. The monsters and special effects were the highlights, but Black could stake this out as a franchise of his own.

Goosebumps 2 will arrive in theaters on January 26, 2018.
