Global Warming blamed for antarctic snow growth as IPCC data wrong again, Putin says warming is a ‘fraud’
Warming equates to more snow is the latest update from global warming enthusiasts as the latest report from NASA and the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) points out that from 1992 to 2001, Antarctica was estimated to have gained 112 billion tons of ice every year. Even when growth slowed, it still continued, adding 82 billion tons of ice during 2003 t0 2008.
“We’re essentially in agreement with other studies that show an increase in ice discharge in the Antarctic Peninsula and the Thwaites and Pine Island region of West Antarctica,” said Jay Zwally, a glaciologist with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and lead author of the study, which was published on Oct. 30 in the Journal of Glaciology.
“Our main disagreement is for East Antarctica and the interior of West Antarctica – there, we see an ice gain that exceeds the losses in the other areas.” Zwally added that his team “measured small height changes over large areas, as well as the large changes observed over smaller areas.”
Climate change advocates are quick to say that none of this means global warming isn’t happening, but it does indicate some sensationalism may be at play by environmental activists and their reports.
Zwally said that the IPCC report suggested a yearly 0.27 millimeter sea level rise was attributed to Antarctica, a claim that is likely not true according to NASA’s findings. Antarctica’s ice gains illustrate that the continent is actually responsible for reducing the Earth’s sea level by 0.23 millimeters per year. This is bad news, he explained, as the measurement made in the IPCC report must be coming from a different, unknown source.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin made headlines this week for calling global warming a “fraud”:
“The Russian public heard little mention of climate change, because media coverage across state-controlled television stations and print media all but ignored it. On national TV, the villains were locals who routinely but carelessly burn off tall grasses every year, and the sometimes incompetent crews struggling to put the fires out.
While Western media have examined the role of rising temperatures and drought in this year’s record wildfires in North America, Russian media continue to pay little attention to an issue that animates so much of the world.
The indifference reflects widespread public doubt that human activities play a significant role in global warming, a tone set by President Vladimir Putin, who has offered only vague and modest pledges of emissions cuts ahead of December’s U.N. climate summit in Paris.
Russia’s official view appears to have changed little since 2003, when Putin told an international climate conference that warmer temperatures would mean Russians “spend less on fur coats” while “agricultural specialists say our grain production will increase, and thank God for that”.

You should be fired immediately. It is not honest journalism to lead off with “global warming enthusiasts” No one is an enthusiast for rapid and uncontrollable climate disruption.Climate science is complex and new information refines our understanding..that is the beauty and honesty of science. As the research clearly shows…more snow is in keeping with predictions and what we observe in Antarctica in no way diminishes the predicted results of ever growing co2 concentrations caused by human activity. PS Putin isn’t a climate scientist..he’s a dictator
Less snow in the arctic, more ice at the south pole = climate changes as the earth evolves without any regard to the influence of the humans.
Global Warming “enthusiasts” is too nice, Brandon should have used ALARMISTS. Even in the article/studies the DATA IS WRONG and can’t explain the massive ice accumulation. This is NOT the “Day After Tomorrow,” so as shocking as it is to me, I agree with the dictator Putin who has more access to scientists and the truth than you or I do.
The fact that you want somebody fired for wording a sentence in a manner that is unfavourable to your view on climate change tells me that the “honesty of science” has no place in this debate. The debate on “climate change” is a political debate, not a scientific one and it’s been that way for a long time. Putin has no skin in western politics and so he’s just stating what he sees.
