During weeks 40 to 41 (29 September 2013 to 12 October 2013), National Influenza Centres (NICs) and other national influenza laboratories from 81 countries, areas or territories reported data.

Nearly 600 samples tested positive for one of the flu viruses with the vast majority (nearly 75%) being influenza A H3N2.

During the recent two weeks,  influenza B and A(H1N1)pdm09 followed A(H3N2) in numbers.

Flu activity is low in Asia, Oceania, Africa, Central and South America, North America and Europe.

According to FluView, published by the CDC, all 10 U.S. regions reported  influenza-like illness (ILI) activity below region-specific baseline levels.

Two states (Texas and Mississippi) experienced low ILI activity. Forty-eight states and New York City experienced minimal ILI activity.

Data regarding influenza-associated hospitalizations for the 2013-2014 influenza season is not yet available. At this time, no influenza-associated pediatric deaths have been reported for the current (2013-2014) flu season.
