George Miller, Ridley Scott get DGA nomination, Steven Spielberg snubbed
With the Oscar nominations set, the DGA announcement went out as a prelude with their picks for Best Director.
Here are the nominees named by the DGA:
Alejandro González Iñárritu (The Revenant)
Tom McCarthy (Spotlight)
Adam McKay (The Big Short)
George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)
Ridley Scott (The Martian)
Todd Haynes missed out for his work on Carol and Steven Spielberg for Bridge of Spies was a big name missing from the list.
Somewhat awkwardly, the previous year’s recipient returns to present the award meaning there’s a possibility González Iñárritu, who won for Birdman – could present the award to himself. Whether there’s a contingency in place is uncertain.
The Oscar is almost the same:
Adam McKay, The Big Short
George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road
Alejandro González Iñárritu, The Revenant
Lenny Abrahmson, Room
Tom McCarthy, Spotlight
