George HW Bush shaves head to support 2-year-old leukemia patient
Former President George H.W. Bush shaved his head to show support for the son of one of his Secret Service agents. Patrick, 2, lost his hair from leukemia treatments. Bush and his wife lost a 3-year-old daughter to leukemia nearly 60 years ago.
Members of the Bush Protective Division began removing their hair last week in solidarity with Patrick, who was diagnosed with leukemia last spring, Bush’s spokesperson Jim McGrath told CBSNews.com.
Bush said “it was very easy for him to do,” McGrath said.
The former president had helped launch a website, www.patrickspals.org, to assist with Patrick’s medical costs.
While the prognosis for Patrick is “good” but his treatment and illness are touching the Bush family, serving as a reminder of their daughter Robin who died of leukemia in 1953.
His Secret Service members have organized a website and 50-mile motorcycle ride through Maine – where Bush resides – to help pay for Patrick’s medical bills.
