SDCC fans got a big preview of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 with confirmation that Kurt Russell is playing Star Lord’s dad and Sylvester Stallone is also in the film (yes, cue the Tango & Cash jokes).

Director James Gunn oversaw the Guardians presentation joined onstage by stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Rooker and then Russell.

Russell who turns out to be Ego, the Living Planet. Chris Sullivan is playing Taserface in the movie.

First up is some footage of Yondu (Rooker) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) escaping from a Ravager jail cell in what looks like a massive space station with the help of Baby Groot, he’s (“too adorable to kill”), and gets his revenge on their captors. Yondu’s whistle guided arrow plays a part in an impressive way.

The trailer is set to Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” as the team stands on top of a giant alien building set to face some beast they’ve been hired to kill. Gamora is holding a rifle which prompts an exchange with Quill over swords. The transition shifts to quick bits for each character: Star-Lord gearing up for battle with his helmet re-materializing over his face and blasting off; Gamora leaping and stabbing at a creature with a sword; Rocket spinning in circles firing guns, now with Baby Groot on his shoulder and then Drax on some alien planet looking up and saying: “Screw Spaceships” (He’s stabbing something later).

The new Guardian member, Mantis (Pom Klementieff), is introduced to the team and then there is Ego is revealed as Star-Lord’s father. The exchange is about taking human form, meeting Quill’s mother and Drax questioning his penis.

One joke involves Star Lord apologizing to Rocket for calling him a raccoon, saying that he meant to call him “a trash panda.”

The other big reveal is Stallone dressed as a Nova.

The fans seemed thrilled and the trailer/footage will get posted when released by Marvel/Disney.

During the panel Saldana joked that in her relationship with Star Lord, Gamora’s become the nagging “old lady, constantly telling him to stop it, stop it…”

Debicki confirmed she’s playing Ayesha, otherwise known as “Her.” Ayesha is a cosmic being, the second attempt to engineer  the perfect specimen (Adam Warlock being the first).

Drax is more confused than ever, Rooker bribed Gunn with blue cookies to get a bigger role in GATG 2 and Kevin Feige announced there would be a Guardians of the Galaxy theme park attraction at Disneyland California beginning in 2017.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives May 5, 2017.
