Freedom From Religion Foundation: ‘Bible calls for killing nonbelievers, apostates, gays’

While the presence of Gideon Bibles in the hotels at Penn State University riled critics and ultimately the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the atheist group made shocking comment about the Bible.

“No nonreligious hotel guests should have to pay high prices to be proselytized in the privacy of their own bedrooms,” Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the atheist group, said in a statement. “The Bible calls for killing nonbelievers, apostates, gays, ‘stubborn sons,’ and women who are not virgins on their wedding nights.”

While touting a victory over the removal of the Bibles from the hotels, the atheist group revealed their ignorance of scripture, especially the New Testament and revealed their true motives.

I always thought the Freedom From Religion folks understood the difference between the Bible and the Quran, but I guess I was wrong.

I quickly searched for some guidance and discover an atheist post quoting Deuteronomy 17:

If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

So, again the writings of Moses DO NOT trump the teachings of Jesus or how the Bible is supposed to be taught and applied in 2014.

Instructions given to the youth headed into the promise land is hardly instruction for modern Christians to murder non-Christians and that’s probably why we don’t see that happening anywhere in the world.

No, in fact, we only see the Christians and non-Christians being murdered by ISIS and other Islamic extremists.

Jesus taught us to love our God with all of our heart and then love our brethren as ourselves. He created a new covenant and changed most of the rules (some things are not addressed in the New Testament) but purging sin in 28AD was significantly different than during Joshua’s leadership.

It’s just refreshing to have the Freedom From Religion group final exposed as the atheist extremists there are: haters of Christianity. While the group condemns Islam (at least once) they blame religion for most of the world’s ills.

Bible and God hating is your right in America, that is you exercising your “freedom of religion” – the belief in “No God” or the hatred of the One True God.

Stalin, Lenin, Mao and Pol Pot would be proud.

Interesting but wrong. I think it is fairly well understood that religion is designed to provide an absolute morality. For this to be possible it requires an unchanging morality otherwise it wouldn’t be absolute. Therefore how can you argue against such a claim? If your gods teachings are not absolute then surely he can not be eternal and all knowing. Remember this: No argument exists in a vortex and in your case is actually an argument against most make religions.

The moral code of Good and Evil defined by the Creator never change and never will.

How we apply that code and the actions we take are part of our free will. The atonement of sin through blood sacrifice is what changed when Jesus died for all of our transgressions. The nation of Israel, a group of refugees were given strict instructions on how to keep sin out of their culture and civilization. They failed and accepting these other Gods, sexual immorality etc…all led to their downfall and separation from God. The cycle of Judges illustrates this in great detail.

Fast forward and society changes; therefore, how we eradicate sin from our lives/society changes – not the moral code. Paul affirms that it is better to cut off his arm if it leads him to sin than allow the sin to consume his whole body and condemn him to hell.

Jesus calls for self-examination and less persecution of others. The “church” has failed at this over the years, but strives to reach out with love to others, yet communicate the model life, free of sin, which we should strive to attain. Christ validates the truth of Old Testament but outlines the message which Paul implements with the disciples in the early formation of the church. This doesn’t condone murdering adulterous Romans, killing the pagans of their day or stoning anyone.

John 8:7 “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” – You don’t murder the sinful because you are a sinner as well. You teach, preach, educate and work hard to eradicate sin appropriately within our society.
