France confirms second case of novel coronavirus
The Minster of Social Affairs and Health in France has confirmed a second case of novel coronavirus ( nCoV-EMC) in a person who shared a room with the 1st case in the hospital in Valenciennes, according to a Minister of Social Affairs and Health press release May 12.
Another suspected case was cleared after negative results were reported by the Pasteur Institute.
The infected person shared the room on the first patient, the 65-year-old man with a coronavirus infection, at the hospital in Valenciennes. This person, who had prolonged and close contact with the initial case is currently hospitalized and isolated operation Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital of Lille.
“The National Health Institute [INVS] is continuing epidemiologic monitoring to identify people who have been in contact with this new case of nCoV infection.” according to a ministry statement.
With the addition of this second confirmed case of nCoV-EMC in France, brings the total of confirmed cases of infection with this virus to 34.
As ProMed Mail points out, it also brings the number of clusters involving person-to-person transmission of this nCoV to 4 – with prior clusters of person-to-person transmission confirmed in Jordan [April 2012], the UK [February 2013], and Saudi Arabia [April/May 2013].
