Fox sets ‘The Wolverine’ sequel will be rated R after ‘Deadpool’ success
Deadpool‘s success, despite being rated-R, has Fox scratching their heads and possibly considering similar structures for future films. The latest rumors appear to have been proven right as Wolverine 3 is reportedly planned to be rated R.
In a long Facebook post Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn lamented how studios would inevitably try to copy Deadpool in an attempt to land the same success.
“So, over the next few months, if you pay attention to the trades, you’ll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool. They’ll be green lighting films ‘like Deadpool’ — but, by that, they won’t mean ‘good and original’ but ‘a raunchy superhero film’ or ‘it breaks the fourth wall.’ They’ll treat you like you’re stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn’t do.”
Now 20th Century Fox now feels confident about its plans for a third Wolverine film after seeing Deadpool’s success. Comicbook Resources reports the studio announced its R-rating plans for Wolverine 3 at its Toy Fair presentation.
The upcoming Wolverine film will see Hugh Jackman reprising his Wolverine role for the final time.
Wolverine 3 is set to premiere March 3, 2017 and in case you were wondering Hugh Jackman thinks Wolverine can “100 percent” take on Deadpool.
