Florida: Toddler Cedric Phipps found dead in kiddie pool
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies are still instigating the death of an 18-month-old boy who was found unresponsive in a kiddie pool at the family’s home on Tuesday afternoon.
The boy’s mother, Ashley Norman, age 25, told police she found her son, Cedric Phipps, face down in the kiddie pool after leaving the child in a baby swing to check on other children. When she returned, Cedric had drowned.
Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilder confirmed that family members and neighbors attempted CPR as EMS was called. EMS attempted to resuscitate the child at the scene and while on the way to Lakeland Regional Hospital.
The child was declared dead at the hospital.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy. Deputies are conducting an ongoing death investigation.
“Right now, we’re gathering eyewitness testimonies,” said Wilder. “The medical examiner will help determine the cause and manner of death.”
