Florida man, Michael Hamson, arrested after trying to rob Tampa bank with a fake bomb

Police have arrested a man who tried to rob a Tampa Bank of America with a fake bomb.

Michael HamsonMichael J. Hamson Sr., age 59,  gave a note to a teller at the Bank of America demanding money and threatening he had a bomb, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

He lifted his shirt and showed a container with metal clips attached and a cell phone taped to a pen.

The teller gave Hamson an undisclosed amount of money and activated the alarm system. As Hamson left the bank, a security guard reportedly pursued him on foot through the parking lot, where deputies took him into custody.

Hamson’s device was found to be a hoax and is now facing charges of with armed bank robbery and is being held without bond in Tampa’s Orient Road Jail.

Hamson was just released from the Hillsborough County Jail on January 10 for other unrelated felony charges.
