Florida man, Artem Eydelman arrested for traumatic beating death of 7-week-old Gwendolyn Eydelman

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detectives in Florida have arrested a Largo man Monday for the beating death of the seven-week-old baby, Gwendolyn Eydelman. Artem Eydelman initially lied to officers about the baby’s death, but has confessed to striking the newborn.

Artem Eydelman, 29, told deputies at the time he’d found Gwendolyn in her bassinet on November 17 unresponsive. Paramedics were called and administering life saving techniques to save Gwendolyn, who was transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

On November 19, she was removed from life support and succumbed to her injuries.

Doctors told detectives Gwendolyn suffered a skull fracture consistent with “high force impact”, bleeding on the brain, and rib fractures.

On Monday, Artem Eydelman confessed during an interview with detectives that he had indeed hit the baby girl with a closed fist while changing her diaper that day. He also reportedly admitted to shaking the child and squeezing her midsection before calling 911.

Following the confession, Eydelman was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail, charged with first degree murder and a couple of violations of probation.

Dating back ten years, the man has a long criminal history, including more than 20 arrests for domestic violence, drugs, and robbery

Police confirmed that all this occurred while Gwendolyn’s mother, Mariah Samon, 26, was at work.

Officials said Eydelman also has a long history of arrests, including more than 20 arrests for domestic violence, drugs, and robbery — dating back to 2008.

Police report that Eydelman was not Gwendolyn’s biological father. The child’s mother informed detectives she first met Eydelman when she was three months pregnant with Gwendolyn. Eydelman signed Gwendolyn’s birth certificate when she was born.

Eydelman remains in the Pinellas County Jail where he is being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing.

Eydelman will appear before a Pinellas County judge this afternoon.
