Florida: Local transmission of dengue reported in Broward County, 5th case in the state

Broward County, FL health officials recently confirmed a locally-acquired case of dengue in a Broward County resident.

This is the first such case this year in Broward County and the fifth locally acquired case in Florida in 2019 (four cases have been reported in Miami-Dade County).

There is a heightened concern of additional residents becoming ill. The Florida Department of Health in Broward County and Broward County Mosquito Control Division continue surveillance and prevention efforts.

Health officials remind the public to protect yourself from mosquitoes, you should remember to “Drain and Cover”: DRAIN standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying, COVER skin with clothing or repellent and COVER doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house.
