Florida judge, Eric Myers, arrested for domestic battery

Florida judge was charged early Saturday with domestic battery after striking an “unidentified” victim.

Eric-R-MyersEric Myers, 58, who hears criminal cases for the 13th judicial circuit in Hillsborough County, was taken into custody by Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies just before 2 a.m. at the Criminal Courthouse Annex in Tampa, arrest records show.

Friday evening, Myers struck hit the victim “in the face and head with an open and closed fist,” according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report.

Myers admitted to deputies that he grabbed the victim by the hair and hit the victim once in the face with an open palm, which caused redness and swelling to the left ear, the report read.

He was released Saturday from the Hillsborough County Jail on $500 bond.

No additional information about the incident was immediately available.

Myers was appointed to the bench in 2000 by then-Gov. Jeb Bush. He was re-elected to a six-year term without opposition in 2014. Originally from Haines City, Myers is a graduate of the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C.
