Florida break-in result: intruder Chevez Faison dead as homeowner Reuben Bailey shot back

A 24-year-old Florida man was shot and killed after he unlawfully entered a Lakeland home, shot at residents who then fired back, killing the intruder, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities detailed the events at the Chestnut Hills Drive home as Chevez Antwann Faison entered the home and fired shots at two people inside. He was then shot and killed by the homeowner, Reuben Bailey Jr., 31, when he returned fire.

Bailey and Alphonso James Milton III, 27, a neighbor who was inside the home, were not injured. No one else was injured.

“Forcing your way into an occupied residence is a bold and foolish decision — if you are foolish enough to break into someone’s home, you can expect to be shot in Polk County,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in a news release.

The incident remains under investigation. Bailey is not expected to face any criminal charges.

He and Milton are said to be cooperating with the investigation.

“We still have a lot of questions that we don’t have 100 percent of the answers for yet,” said a sheriff’s department spokeswoman, Donna Wood, according to The Ledger.

Deputies are asking anyone with more information to call the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 863-298-6200.

Faison had a long criminal history, including being found guilty for grand theft of a firearm, burglary, grand theft of a dwelling, robbery, escape of a juvenile detention facility, battery on a detention officer, burglary with no weapon, escape or attempt to escape, and criminal mischief, according to public records.

He was released from prison in March 2015, Wood said.
