Popular actor Damian Lewis has been replaced on the series with a new key male character, played by Corey Stoll. Seen in House of Cards, he will play Sandy Bachman, the CIA chief of station in Pakistan. Life of Pi star Suraj Sharma has also joined the cast. He is set to play a Pakistani medical student.

Bored to Death star Laila Robins plays Martha Boyd, the U.S. Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who is professional and put together, with a ship-to-ship voice and personality to match.

Returning are Mandy Patinkin and Nazanin Boniadi as the new season of Homeland premieres Sunday, October 6 at 9 pm.

Lewis confessed that he’ll miss playing Brody “I’d known for some time that this would be Brody’s last season, so I was well prepared. Still it was such an enjoyable job that I’ll miss Brody,” he said.

David Nevins, president of Showtime, said season four will be “a big reset”, putting Danes’ character Carrie Mathison in the field overseas.

Homeland is a show that is deeply about a field operative [Carrie], and we haven’t seen her much in the field,” he said. “In season four you will likely see her on the ground in a foreign capital doing her job.”

Deadline summarizes: “At the end of last season Carrie, pregnant with the late Brody’s (Damian Lewis) baby, along with her mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), brought a significant and much-needed win for the agency and country at large. Season 4 will find Carrie assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror.”
