First look Melissa Benoist in full ‘Supergirl’ costume
The Supergirl production is underway and Warner Bros. Television has unveiled the first look at Melissa Benoist in full costume.
Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, creators behind Arrow and The Flash, are on board to adapt the DC Comics property with Ali Adler (Chuck, The New Normal).
Fans will likely be happy with the costume that was designed by the legendary Colleen Atwood (who also designed The Flash’s TV costume). Speaking about her approach to Kara’s new outerwear, Atwood said “In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today.”
CBS is filming the pilot which will follow Kara, 24, living on Earth with the full knowledge of the powers she shares with her cousin, Superman. She’s been hiding her powers all her life, but she finally decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was destined to be.
While details are scarce, Jeremy Jordan has been cast was the character who becomes the Toyman, but fans are expecting a benign criminal in the pilot. Other stars are Mechad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Kara’s boss, and Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), Kara’s science-minded foster sister; Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (note here: Henshaw is the character who becomes Cyborg Superman); and Laura Benanti as Kara’s birth mom.
The original Supergirl Helen Slater and previous Superman Dean Cain have also been cast in mystery roles.
