First look: Joker arrives in ‘Gotham’ in new clip, photo

Gotham executive producer Bruno Heller has hinted that The Joker would be appearing before the season’s end and the new teaser reveals the first look at the iconic Batman villain.

Setting up the reveal with “You’ve seen…” the Riddler, Catwoman and Penguin, “Gotham’s next villain is no joke,” the preview teases, is a man being questioned by Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who has quite the unhinged maniacal laugh.

Gotham cast photoCinema Blend points out that that’s actor Cameron Monaghan (The Giver, Vampire Academy, Shameless), who will be playing a teenaged version of The Joker, in an effort to make the villain a similar age to the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz).

The episode,  entitled “The Blind Fortune Teller,” will reveal Jerome, the new character on the show, presumably with a dark and sinister future ahead of him.

Fans should be warned, as Heller also hinted that these teasers may not ultimately have a pay off anytime soon.

“Yeah, we’ll play with that down the line. Not over the course of one season, no, because people will still get tired of that. ‘Is that the Joker? Is that the Joker?’ No. In a subtle way, we’ll be doing that and hopefully we’ll fool them in the end.”
