‘Finding Dory’ trailer teases a new adventure and family, ‘not about making money’ says director

A brand new trailer and image for Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory dropped and teases a big adventure with the forgetful Blue Tang from Finding Nemo. In fact, the trailer itself sets up the questions of empathy and desire to help a friend “find herself” and where she (Dory) came from.

Nemo and Marlin help search for answers about Dory’s past: What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale?

After a debut on the Ellen Degeneres Show, audiences have been hooked while watching Disney’s Zootopia as Pixar will likely strike it big at the box office. That said, director Andrew Stanton assures fans that Finding Dory is not a contrived picture to just make money.

“Disney doesn’t request those things,” he tells Yahoo Movies, referring to the series of sequels that Pixar has on its upcoming slate. “That was the deal when Disney bought us. The third movie we ever made [1999’s Toy Story 2] was a sequel, and we learned early on that it’s not worth doing unless it’s good.”

“I never thought there was going to be a sequel,” he remembers, “until one day I went, ‘You know, I worry Dory could get lost again and not find the family she has.’ And I wondered, ‘Where did she come from?’”

Ellen DeGeneres is back to voice the titular character with other voice actors: Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton.

Pixar has revealed Hank is a “cantankerous octopus” voiced by Ed O’Neill; Bailey, a “misguided beluga whale” voiced by Ty Burrell; and Destiny, a “kind-hearted whale shark” played by Kaitlin Olsen. Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy voice Dory’s parents Jenny and Charlie.

Michael Sheen and The Wire stars Idris Elba and Dominic West will also be voicing characters in the film, although their characters have also yet to be revealed.

Finding Dory swims into theaters June 17, 2016.
