Finding a Great Family Dentist

Whether its routine care of your dental hygiene, or an emergency visit required, you probably want to find a great family dentist who can provide the dental care each member of your family needs.

What to Look for in a Good Family Dentist

To ensure that a dental practice can provide the care the whole of your family needs, look for a dental practice which has cosmetic dentists, pediatric dentists and general dentists, possibly as well as Dental Hygienist.

Many dental practices recognize that a visit to the dentist its everyone’s favorite thing to do so some have now developed the surroundings of their practice to be more like a spa with relaxing music, aromatherapy, refreshments, as well as complimentary spa facilities such as eye masks, lip balms, headphones, earplugs and scented towelettes.

Dental Services Available at a Dental Practice

For the younger members of the family a pediatric Dentist will offer regular check ups, cleaning, fillings and fluoride treatments to protect children’s teeth from the cavities they are susceptible to.  Dental sealants can also be offered for children with permanent molars and premolars. A pediatric dentist will also advise on whether a child would benefit from a brace and then refer the child to an Orthodontist if this is the case.

For adults regular check ups are recommended at least once per year, and then combined with a dental hygiene appointment where the teeth can be cleaned and plaque removed.  Gum disease needs to be checked for regularly. For emergency tooth repairs or fillings a good dental practice will offer an emergency service, allowing for out of hours appointments.

For those who want to enhance their smile, cosmetic surgery can be a service provided by a large dental practice.  From teeth whitening, to veneers, crowns, porcelain restorations, and bridges there are many options offered to replace old cosmetic surgery or as a first time surgery.

How Often Should You Visit Your Dentist

For adults it is recommended that a dental appointment for a check up and hygienist be made once per year, and then any emergency requirements booked in as and when required.  For children because of their fast developing teeth, constant changes and susceptibility to cavities, it is recommended that they have a dental appointment twice per year.

For patients with dentures, veneers, bridges and other dental implants it is recommended that they visit the dentist every six months to have a professional cleaning and hygiene check up to ensure that the implanted areas don’t harbor fungal infections and that other teeth and gums are healthy.

So as a family you will want to try and find a dental practice that can provide all of the dental services that the family requires.  For the children a Pediatric Dentist and a Hygienist, for adults the option of cosmetic dental surgery, regular check ups, hygienist, and emergency dental cover.  An added bonus is if the dental practice also provide a spa like experience to make your visit to the dentist as relaxing as possible.
