FBI Announces $25,000 Reward in Fugitive Investigation of Juan Alberto Mendez

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s San Antonio Field Office is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading directly to the arrest of a wanted fugitive. Juan Alberto Mendez, 47, formerly of Mission, Texas, is an alleged associate of the Gulf Cartel and wanted for his alleged involvement in drug racketeering, including murder in aid of racketeering, between 2015 and 2018 in Indiana and Texas.

On May 11, 2018, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston, Texas, issued a federal arrest warrant after Mendez was charged federally with conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity, attempted murder in aid of racketeering, murder in aid of racketeering, and kidnapping resulting in death.

On September 23, 2015, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Indiana, issued a federal arrest warrant after Mendez was charged federally with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute Schedule I controlled substance – heroin, Schedule II controlled substance – cocaine, Schedule I controlled substance – marijuana, and forfeiture.

Mendez has brown hair, brown eyes, is approximately 5’7” to 5’8” in height and approximately 189 to 250 pounds, and has scars on his abdomen, chin, head, right knee, and right forearm. He also has a mole on his right cheek and is known to wear glasses. In the United States, Mendez has ties in Mission, Texas, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. In Mexico, he has ties in two cities in the state of Quintana Roo—Cancun and Playa del Carmen; in the state of Nuevo Leon, he has ties in Monterrey; and in the state of Tamaulipas, he has ties in Reynosa.

Mendez should be considered armed and dangerous and is a domestic and international flight risk.
