Fathom Events to broadcast ‘The Giver’ Red Carpet Event: Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift

Fathom Events is joining The Weinstein Company (TWC), Walden Media and the cast and crew of “The Giver” at the film’s theatrical premiere, live from the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York for an exclusive presentation of The Giver: World Premiere Red Carpet Event to select U.S. cinemas on Monday, August 11 at 7pm EDT and tape delayed at 7pm CDT, MDT and PDT. Audiences will experience the glamorous red carpet as though they were invited guests with the cast and crew, scheduled to include Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift, Brenton Thwaites and many others.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in exclusive interaction with the film’s stars only available onscreen at this premiere event as they speak directly to theater audiences from the red carpet.  Cinema guests will then enjoy the full length feature film four days before its official, public release on August 15.

The event will be presented in nearly 250 select movie theaters nationwide through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. One lucky fan and their guest will also get their own chance fly to New York City and walk the red carpet at the movie premiere just by uploading a photo of themselves reading “The Giver” to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Photobucket with the hashtag #TheGiver.  For more details, fans can Shazam “The Giver” promos in NCM’s FirstLook pre-show in movie theaters nationwide throughout July, or visit “The Giver” Selfies Contest page on Photobucket.

The haunting story of “The Giver” centers on Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver (Jeff Bridges), who is the sole keeper of all the community’s memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community’s secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined – a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all – a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before. “The Giver” is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel, which was winner of the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

“’The Giver’ is a true literary classic, having sold over 11 million copies since its publication 20 years ago,” said Walden Media’s Micheal Flaherty. “What better way to celebrate the film release of ‘The Giver’ than to work with Fathom and The Weinstein Company to provide Giver fans with an unforgettable audience experience.”

“Fathom Events has given us an amazing opportunity to create the ultimate fan experience surrounding THE GIVER,” said Stephen Bruno, President of Marketing at TWC. “Readers around the world are so excited to see their favorite book on the big screen, and we’re thrilled to be bringing them right to the red carpet, front and center.”

“Fathom Events is proud to partner with TWC and Walden Media to give U.S. audiences the first red carpet premiere event of this scale and the opportunity to see ‘The Giver’ in theaters,” said John Rubey, CEO of Fathom Events. “In addition to seeing the film before its wide theatrical release, our guests will have an exclusive invitation to join the stars for the full red carpet experience.”
