‘Fast & Furious 6’ and ‘The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug’ star Luke Evans cast as lead in ‘Dracula’

The title was ‘Dracula Year Zero’ but first director Gary Shore will be taking the origin of Dracula story to the big screen with Luke Evans as the titular character.

Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman in HobbitThe script for Dracula has been kicking around Hollywood for years under the title Dracula Year Zero, and focuses on the origin of the world’s first (and most famous) vampire. The title has been confirmed now as simply Dracula, although it will still be more of an origin story than an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel. Alex Proyas (The Crow) was previously set to direct the new Dracula with Sam Worthington (Clash of the Titans) in the title role, although both Proyas and Worthington have moved on.

Dracula  is part of Universal’s attempt to reboot their Classic Monsters franchise. Tom Cruise is attached to produce and star in a Van Helsing project as well.
