Fans pack the Orange Convention Center for MegaCon 2012 PHOTOS
The Orange County Convention Center is packed this weekend with thousands of science fiction, comic book, anime, movie and pop culture fans. MegaCon 2012 showcased a long list of guests headlined by Stan Lee of Marvel Comics and Tom Felton of the Harry Potter films.
Stealing the show; however, is the countless fans dressed as their favorite characters from Batman to Thor to Green Bay Packer Stormtroopers to obscure anime characters. (Check out the first slideshow over at the Examiner version of this article here)
Why don layers and layers of body paint?
“Just for fun. Just to dress up”, Rachelle, who is plastered in a rainbow array of colors accenting her beaming smile.
The crowded aisle and long lines didn’t discourage these fans, old and young alike.
“I’m a huge comic book fan and now I pass that along (to my kids). This is our first MegaCon and the people are real nice”, says Rob of Orlando. He traversed the crowds with his daughters, a couple dressed as DC characters: Wonder Woman and Batgirl.
Cosplay, “costume play”, is the norm at these conventions and they will point the camera at one another in praise of the hard work.
One fan favorite was Ryan Frye of Orlando, a look-a-like to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
When asked how he discovered the resemblance he stated: “When I couldn’t go to restaurants and NOT be asked if I was the actor.”
The likeness is so canny that the young Frye was working up a sweat catering to all of the requests for photos.
