Facebook blocks links, posts for new Kirk Cameron film ‘Unstoppable,’ saying it’s ‘spammy’

Thursday evening Kirk Cameron announced to his fans on Facebook that the social media giant has blocked all posts promoting and linking to his next film Unstoppable. (See the trailer below)

Kirk Cameron film Unstoppable“Facebook has officially “blocked” me and you (and everyone else) from posting any link to my new movie at UnstoppableTheMovieDOTcom, labeling the content as “abusive”, “unsafe”, and “spammy”! I can’t even write the real link here, or Facebook would block this post too!!”

UPDATE: It appears to be resolved, but it’s worth monitoring – BBJ, The Dispatch

Cameron claims that users cannot even post to the site, the trailer or mention of the film – it will be blocked by Facebook.

“Try to post it yourself and see! We have been officially shut down by Facebook and unable to get any response from them. This is my most personal film about faith, hope, and love, and about why God allows bad things to happen to good people. What is “abusive” or “unsafe” about that?! Please help us encourage Facebook to unblock our website soon by sharing this post with your friends so more people can see this transparent, faith-building project.”

Synopsis: Kirk Cameron returns to movie theaters September 24 with the follow-up to his record-breaking, one-night theatrical event, Monumental. In UNSTOPPABLE, a brand-new documentary, Kirk takes you on a personal and inspiring journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raiser in faith: Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?

“To protect the hundreds of millions of people who connect and share on Facebook every day, we have automated systems that work in the background to maintain a trusted environment and protect our users from bad actors who often use links to spread spam and malware,” Facebook says today.

But “in rare instances they make mistakes.” And this was one of them: The link “was blocked for a very short period of time after being misidentified as a potential spam or malware site. We learn from rare cases such as these to make our systems even better.”

  5. Forrest Novak says:

I don’t think Kirk Cameron was lying about the blocking and spamming. However, he was false witnessing to the neighbor. Did he said that he was to trying promote it that it was blocked on the first time? I think it was spam website for a movie before Kirk Cameron added this html to site. When I looked at the past pages. There is a screenshot of a movie called The Honey Killer and as known as Unstoppable. http://web.archive.org/web/20110203125656/http://www.unstoppablethemovie.com/
He should never make rumors about Facebook until the facts were in place.
