Experience Adventurous Themed and Unusual Cruise Options

While thousands embark on traditional cruise line vacations every year, the idea of spending time on a conventional ocean liner may prove dull for some. In that case, there are a variety of alternatives that allow passengers to indulge in a little time at sea under different circumstances.

Themed Cruises
Throughout the year, cruise ship lines offer specifically themed cruises that provide the chance for passengers having similar interests to sail the seas together.

Musical Cruises-These types of journeys take one of two forms. In one theme, the ship may feature a number of big name celebrities who perform live and mingle with guests. In the second scenario, the entire cruise may be based on a musical theme that might include anything from country, heavy metal or rock’n’roll. During these excursions, multiple lesser-known bands offer cover selections in many different areas of the ship representative of a particular music genre or a popular band.

Food and Beverage Cruises-These adventures combine a typical cruise with a focus on cuisine. Celebrity chefs may offer live demonstrations or participate in contests. Passengers have the chance to interview celebrity guests and pick up some cooking tips. Ships may port in locations where guests have the chance to visit renowned farms, markets or restaurants. Ship menus and vessel themes may also revolve around a specific food.

Hobby Cruises-Whether enjoying ballroom dancing, crocheting, knitting, or photography, there are cruises that welcome passengers sharing these popular interests. Professionals specializing in the hobby also embark on the voyage to offer classes, demonstrations, tips or recommendations. These popular themed events cover a long list of favorite pastimes on different cruise lines at various times during the year.

Unusual Cruises
These voyages entail sailing on an unconventional vessel to a particular destination. This type of cruise often appeals to singles and couples who prefer not sharing vacation time with hundreds or thousands of other passengers.

THV Patricia Working Ship-The crew aboard this vessel sails around the British Isles while maintaining and repairing buoys and lighthouses. However, guests choosing to ride along have access to luxurious en-suite cabins, a dining room and elegant lounge. Tour the ship and take advantage of the opportunity to go ashore when the ship stops at different locations.

Canadian Tugboat-See spectacular fjords, snow-capped mountain ranges and evergreen forests while aboard the MV Parry. Stand on deck and watch migrating porpoises and whales play in the waves made by the vessel. Guests stay in cozy cabins, enjoy a lounge complete with fireplace and a menu that includes meals prepared with fresh seafood. Along the way, the boat makes side trips, which provide passengers with the chance to go beach-combing, clam-digging or hiking.

Icebreaker Cruise-Sail to the North Pole aboard one of these nuclear-powered vessels that welcomes little more than 100 passengers each voyage. The ship is equipped with an indoor swimming pool, fitness center and sauna. At the Pole, guests indulge in special barbecues, take helicopter rides to spot polar bears and other native wildlife. Attend special lectures and join an exploration across the terrain.
