‘Expendables 3’ gets a director, Aussie Patrick Hughes, looks for 2014 release
The latest installment of The Expendables 3 finally has a director as the pre-production begins to move forward.
Deadline confirms that Patrick Hughes, popular Australian director of commercials and 2010’s Red Hill, will helm the Sly Stallone all-star cast of action heroes.
Stallone is said to have personally blessed the decision to choose Hughes and the production is set to begin in August. While nothing is set in stone, Stallone has stated that he’d like to see even more humor in this film.
The Expendables 2 grossed $300 million worldwide and the pair grossed $575 million, so it is the biggest franchise play for Millennium Films.
Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren are all set to join Stallone on the third film with Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes rumored to added.
While the exact date has not been set, 2014 appears to be likely.
A “female” Expendables also appears to be moving forward with Gina Carano, Katee Sackhoff and Linda Hamilton all attached to the project, written by Dutch Southern.
