Evan Jones identified as UMass student found dead in dorm

A Umass Amherst student was found dead in his dorm room on Saturday.

In a statement, Umass Amherst  Executive Director of News and Media Relations Ed Blaguszewski said the student was identified as nineteen year old Evan Jones of Milton.

Jones was a sophomore resident of Washington Tower, and was found around 1:00 p.m. in his fourth floor single room.

Umass Amherst Police suspect no foul play, but the State Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause since the death was unattended.

“His death is not considered suspicious and there was no foul play,” University spokesman Daniel Fitzgibbons  Fitzgibbons said. said.

According to the release, the residence hall was safe and secure, and University staff were providing counseling and assistance to Washington residents and other students, faculty and staff.
