Emily Riedel talks new ‘Bering Sea Gold’ season, dredging, failures, singing

Discovery Channel’s Being Sea Gold returned for another exciting season and Emily Riedel, the first and only female dredge owner, talked with Dispatch Radio about the show, how things have changed with a full season under belt, issues on the show and pursuing her singing passion.

It was a “dismal failure,” Emily says of her beginnings, but then sets lofty goals. “It was polarized…a day-by-day situation” and confesses to her approach to motivate the crew, dealing with the cold, the equipment and even the film crew.

“There’s a lot of crashes between me and Los Angeles.”

Bering Sea Gold is filmed in Nome, Alaska during some harsh conditions from the creators of Deadliest Catch. The team are gold mining, battling choppy seas, poor underwater visibility, inconsistent fuel delivery, personnel issues, mining location rights, sufficient paydirt discovery, diver safety, and ocean-damaging equipment failures.
