‘Duck Dynasty’ rolls out church curriculum titled ‘Faith Commander: Living Five Values From the Parables of Jesus’

Willie Robertson Duck Dynasty photoA&E’s Duck Dynasty hasn’t been hurt by the Phil Robertson scandal, in fact, the show will now have a book and DVD curriculum for churches: Faith Commander: Living Five Values From the Parables of Jesus.

Created by Kori Robertson, wife of Duck Commander’s CEO Willie Robertson, and her mom, Chys Howard, the curriculum attempts to reach across all age groups for a churchwide experience.

“We chose the parables of Jesus because sometimes they are not always studied like they should be,” says Howard.

“God put those in the Bible for us to learn from. Willie, Phil, Alan and, well, all the guys are great storytellers. In Faith Commander, they explain the parables as stories to bring people closer to God. We really believe that this is going to benefit the entire church family—kids, adults and teens. It’s something families can all study together just like they watch the TV show together.”

HarperCollins Publishing notes that the curriculum is not denomination specific and attempts to reach out to all Christians.

“Nothing in this curriculum is seen as controversial,” Casey Francis Harrell, director of corporate communications for HarperCollins Christian Publishing said, in response to a question about whether the content would include any teachings on gay marriage, abortion, or contraception. The topics are not covered “as these are not part of the five values from the parables of Jesus,” she explained.

For children, the curriculum is only available on DVD, and features a five-day bonus Vacation Bible School Program called “Willie’s Redneck Rodeo: Lassoing the Heart of God.” In addition, Faith Commander provides pastors with free sermons and other promotional resources.

The adult and teen studies will go on sale May 6, with the churchwide curriculum kit being available for purchase May 20.
