‘Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F’ Satisfies Fanboys

With Akira Toriyama, the original DBZ writer, and creator Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, is a wonderfully nostalgic experience, comparable to the original series and movies. Set for an encore screening through Fathom Events, Dragon Ball Z will play again beginning tonight. (more details below or here)

Along with this is the amped up modern animation and character design, and the great Maximum the Hormone metal track just for the movie, making the film feel fresh and even more thrilling.

The voice acting by Chris Ayres as Friza is beyond perfect, and the character dialogue leaves out some of the corniness that the other shows and movies included.

The return of Lord Frieza, arguably the most iconic DBZ villain, leaves Goku, Vegeta, and the Z fighters entrusted to fend off the crazed, revege seeking alien, along with 1,000 of his soldiers, to save the Earth.

DBZ-060Picking up directly after Battle of Gods, both Goku and Vegeta are at the helm with the new Super Saiyan God transformation in their arsenal, along with the training from Beerus and Whis, hinted at in the end of Battle of Gods. The three face off in an over-the-top explosive battle, like fans are used to, in order to ensure the survival of the human race.

While the movie was nothing short of the typical DBZ thrill ride, it doesn’t exceed any expectations of storylines, with blatant foreshadowing and the typical deus ex machina ending that the Dragon Ball franchise is known for.

The movie leaves fans feeling more than content, especially in presentation, action, and dialogue, but maybe dissappointed in a lack of new ideas.

Overall the film is what to be expected from a DBZ movie, just with new graphics, less corny banter, and better humor. While it is just a Dragon Ball Z movie, it shouldn’t be taken too seriously, as over-expectations may ruin the experience.

As a DBZ fan, this movie is 4 out of 5 stars and definitely worth watching.

If you aren’t accustom to DBZ, this is probably only a 2 star film.

The film will be presented on the big screen in select cinemas across North America from August 4 -12, 2015. Fathom Events is proud to be showcasing the movie in more than 500 U.S. cinemas again on Wednesday, August 5, Saturday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 11 at 7 p.m. (local time).
