Dr Carey Strom on good health, diet, exercise, colonoscopy risks and probiotics
Dr. Carey Strom, founder and lead physician of Tower Digestive Health Medical Group, spoke with Dispatch Radio about a myriad of health, nutrition and dietary topics: celiac disease, testing for food allergies, the proper amount of exercise and the important of monitoring your diet.
Distancing himself from the fads and bad advice, Strom explains how food allergies must be “diagnosed with a scratch test,” stating that “there are a lot of myths about food allergies” noting symptoms and the proper way to determine your current health state.
Dr. Strom gives a realistic, moderate diet and exercise campaign, “I’m a firm believer in daily exercise, you don’t want to tear down your body,” he says, recommending “thirty minutes a day to get your heart rate up.”
He then talks about the fitness of the mind, “keeping the mind sharp” and what new research suggests.
Strom never talks above the audience’s head, giving real life and practical advice. He then turns attention to colon cancer, when testing should be done and the real life risks to a colonoscopy (hightlighting a benefit over the virtual colonoscopy.)
The expertice of Dr. Strom comes out during the talk and brings a great prescription for good health and advice of “prevention.” He closes out with a run down on pro-biotics, some of the controversy around Yogurts and the claims made by these companies.

Thirty minutes a day to get your heart rate up is not too much time but how many people out of ten have time to go to the gym or even exercise in their rooms? they don’t have the time to exercise but have the time to drink a glass of wine or beer
