Doug Liman tops FOX’s list of directors for ‘Gambit’

Fox may have another problem film on their hands as Gambit with Channing Tatum just lumbers along, not getting much closer to production. The latest news is that Doug Liman tops a list to direct, but even that seems/sounds sketching.

Gambit comic book 1993The news of Liman being a contender to bring Marvel’s mutant anti-hero the screen first broke a few days ago, but now Heroic Hollywood has added a few more names. According to their sources, Liman is only one of several being courted, with Shane Black and Joe Cornish also being in contention.

As usual, please take all rumors, including this one, with a grain of salt until we get an official announcement.

Liman sort of delivered in the action genre, having directed Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity, giving these films just enough personality to distinguish it from the pack, but not enough to live up to expectations.

Black is a more singular voice, using witty dialogue and a twisted plot in films like Iron Man 3. Black is currently working on a Predator reboot with many other projects rumored.

Cornish is the least-experienced from the list with Attack the Block, but he co-wrote the early drafts of Ant-Man with Edgar Wright, so it’s not like he’s totally new to the superhero movie game.

Gambit is a Cajun mutant X-Men who can energize everyday objects and turn them into bombs. Fox has been reeling from the failure of Fantastic Four, so this is worth watching.

There is no word if Gambit will still make its October 7, 2016 scheduled release date, so stay tuned.
