Donald Glover set as Lando in ‘Han Solo’ film, Mom says ‘Don’t mess it up’
The rumors can finally stop as Donald Glover has been officially cast as Lando Calrissian in the new Han Solo spin-off film. Glover appeared on The Ellen Show recently and briefly discussed his new role.
When Glover told his father on the phone that he had gotten the part, Glover said he heard his mother jokingly say from a distance “Don’t mess it up!”
Apparently she has a fondness for Billy Dee Williams, and I can’t imagine how strange that might be for her to have her son playing a character previously played by an actor she loved.
Glover mentions that a Lando action figure preceded Darth Vader as his first Star Wars toy.
Check out the clip below.
Alden Ehrenreich will be playing the younger version of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo. Glover has an impressive resume to land the role, playing Rich Purnell in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, Troy on Community and voicing Marshall on Adventure Time.
Filming will begin in January as Han Solo arrives in theaters on May 25, 2018.
In addition to these rumors, there was more details on the casting of females. HERE
GQ summarized it well, “The rumor came via Twitter, where Mashable film reporter Jeff Sneider stated that there were four young women in the running for a female lead role in the movie, and none of them were white. Taken at face value, the rumor really doesn’t indicate much, except for Lucasfilm and Disney’s continued commitment to making the future of Star Wars a diverse one. But if you’ve been paying attention to all things Star Wars over the past year, there’s a very clear implication for a woman of color taking a lead role in a Han Solo movie: They’re casting Han’s wife.”
“Back to the summer of 2015, in issue #6 of Marvel’s ongoing Star Wars comic book series, Han and Leia are on the run from Imperials when they get cornered by a woman named Sana Solo, who says she’s Han’s wife. And it’s kind of true. Over the following issues, it’s gradually revealed that her name is actually Sana Starros, and that the two of them got married as part of a long con with the end goal of ripping off a third party, only to have their partnership fall apart due to mistrust.”
