Director Zack Snyder discusses Superman’s role in ‘Justice League’

Warner Bros has kept the role of Superman a secret in the beginning of Justice League as the final events of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice left the world believing the Kryptonian was dead. Director Zack Snyder reassures fans that the Man of Steel will have a “big part” in the JL film.

“Superman does play a big part in this movie. His presence, and lack of presence, are big story points…” Snyder tells Empire.

The early photo shows only Batman,Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg. This team may lack the firepower to ward of Steppenwolf and the forces of Apokolips without the Man of Steel.

“These guys – Aquaman, Cyborg, Flash – really are just fun to explore. They’re just so fresh. They’re on the edge of their powers at different times in this story and that’s really fun.”

You can also expect a lighter tone as Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Comics have decided to make the upcoming ensemble movie “hopeful and optimistic”.

DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns, who is also working as a producer on the feature said previously: “Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”

Snyder confessed that the harsh backlash from fans over Bvs has severely impacted his approach to the hotly-anticipated movie: “[The hate] did catch me off guard. I have had to, in my mind, make an adjustment. I do think that the tone of ‘Justice League’ has changed because of what the fans have said.”

Some fans believe a Superman in a black suit is what is coming or possibly a “brainwashed” version of Supes.

The team is Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa).

Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his role of Lex Luthor with Ciaran Hinds as the featured DC Comics bad guy: Steppenwolf.

Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Diane Lane as Mrs. Kent will be part of the cast with (presumably) Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne. Newcomers are  J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.

Synopsis: In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
