Desmonte Leonard, Auburn shooter, surrenders to police
Montgomery police announced that suspected shooter Desmonte Leonard has surrender. Leonard is the prime suspect in the shooting at a party which left three people dead.
The Gasden Times reports that the Montgomery defense attorney arranged for Desmonte Leonard to surrender after getting word that his family wanted her help. Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said the suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Leonard, 22, is charged with three counts of capital murder in a shooting Saturday night after a fight over a woman.
The shooting occurred before midnight on Saturday at an apartment complex near campus favored by Auburn University’s students and athletes. Leonard apparently fled in a white Chevrolet Caprice, which was later found in a ditch.
When police arrived at the scene, Edward Christian was found dead on the sidewalk. Christian was a student and former offensive lineman for the Auburn Tigers football team.
Ladarious Phillips and DeMario Pitts were transported to the hospital, where they later died. Phillips was a student and former backup fullback who gave up football in April, according to his coach.
