Democrats block GOP bills to fund national parks, veteran affairs, DC in government shutdown battle

The House of Representatives will make another attempt Wednesday to pass three emergency funding bills after each failed to obtain the required two-thirds majority Tuesday.

The House Rules Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday to consider the three measures backed by House Republicans, which are aimed at reopening parks and monuments, continuing veterans’ benefits and allowing the municipal government of the District of Columbia to function.

Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) said in a statement after Tuesday’s vote that it is “reckless and shameful that President Obama and House Democrats are putting Obamacare ahead of the interests’ of our nation’s brave veterans, and of school children and families across the country who wish to visit our rich National Parks and museums.”

“House Republicans will continue to work in the interest of the American people, and the President and Democrats should stop holding our nation hostage to their demands for their own special exemption from Obamacare, and their shameful desire to impose health care mandates on American citizens but not big businesses,” she added.

Unlike on Tuesday, the latest bills will not be treated by House GOP leaders as suspension bills, which means they only need a simple majority vote to pass. On Tuesday, each measure needed 286 votes to pass. The parks funding bill went down by a tally of 252-176, the veterans programs by 264-164 and the D.C. government funding by 265-163.

“It is time for Speaker Boehner to stop the games, think about the people he is hurting, and let the House pass the Senate’s bill to re-open the government with Republican and Democratic votes,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday night.

The White House has also rejected the bills in advance.

“The president and the Senate have been clear that they won’t accept this kind of game-playing, and if these bills were to come to the president’s desk he would veto them,” said White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage. “These piecemeal efforts are not serious and they are no way to run a government.”

I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION Global Dispatch IS A CONSERVATIVE SITE. BUT, BECAUSE Robert Herriman IS INTERESTED IN HEALTH ISSUES, THIS SITE HAS A DEMOCRATIC FACE.

“ALL YOU HEAR” IN THE NEWS IS DEMOCRATS ARE MAD BECAUSE REPUBLICANS SHUT-DOWN THE GOVERNMENT IN ORDER TO STOP Obamacare.

IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING Global Dispatch OPPOSES Obamacare. SO, IT IS SILLY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CLOSINGS OF NON-ESSENTIAL AGENCIES WHEN PEOPLE WHO ENJOY THIS SITE DEPEND ON Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) AND Mike Lee (R-UT) TO MAKE “ANY MEANS NECESSARY-” MOVES.

      Brandon Jones,

SIR, AS YOU KNOW, I BELIEVE IN “TYPING” MY MIND.

I KNOW MOST PEOPLE IN CYBERSPACE CONSIDER ME “a pervert with a mental problem.” [And, Mr. Jones, I understand your economic need to keep me away from your other readers].

ON YOUR “About Us Page,” I QUESTIONED YOUR RACE, Mr. Jones. I WANT YOU TO MAKE A LOT OF MONEY. I ASSUME YOU READ MY COMMENTARY. I JUST Googled MY NAME AND WAS REMINDED THAT I TOLD YOU I HAVE AN ADDICTION TO ONLINE DISCUSSION.

MY POINT IS, Mr. Jones, I THINK YOU KNOW I AM A FORMER PARTICIPANT AT Personal Liberty Digest. AND, I ASSUME Bob Livingston IS ONE OF YOUR COMPETITORS. I WENT TO Global Dispatch’s Facebook page AND SAW THE ARTICLE TITLE FOR Reverend Al Sharpton’s comments ON “OPTING-OUT” OF Obamacare. I CLICKED ON THE ARTICLE LINK AND WAS DIVERTED. SO, I FOUND-OUT WHAT Personal Liberty PUBLISHED IN REFERENCE TO Mr. Sharpton’s comments.

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PUBLISHED NUDE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THEMSELVES ON Facebook. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO “PLOT” MURDERS, DRUG ACTIVITY, ETC., ON Facebook. [I love watching television programming on forensic science. Criminal investigators often use Facebook for catching suspects. So, Brandon Jones, does Global Dispatch REALLY want an association with Facebook and its users? AM I WORSE THAN T-H-O-S-E PEOPLE?].

      THANKS FOR READING,
      CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON
