Deputies believe the mother of 1-year-old Trent Wayman was asleep when he left their Holiday home, but Cheryl Reel, the child’s aunt, says that shouldn’t have happened.

“I talked to his mother when I first got here…I don’t care if you work third shift or not, you should still be able to stay awake with your kids,” Reel said.

The baby was last seen in the home about 3:00 p.m. Wednesday and he was reported missing just before 6:00 p.m. by the family. Crews searched around the neighborhood for the child’s body as he was found later that night in a small body of water near his home.

Preliminary information indicate that the boy drowned. with an autopsy has been planned to determine the cause of death.

He would have turned two years old next month.

There are no charges at this point.
