Dean Cain discusses gun control, not supporting Hillary Clinton and running for office
Actor Dean Cain is considering a run for public office in the state of California.
While speaking with Today, the former Superman on The Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman says he is unhappy with the current state of politics in America and insists if nothing changes, he will consider launching a campaign for a seat in the U.S. Congress.
“I think that good people don’t often run and it’s a cliche. So I’m certainly considering it. It’s not something I’m doing in the near future, but if we continue down this track, maybe I’ll have to.”
Cain went further, saying this is not a career job for him.
“The only reason I would get involved is because I care about my country and I care about the future for my son. I don’t want to better myself. I want to be a short-term politician. No career politicians. I’m not a fan of that. It shouldn’t be what you do for a living.”
Cain discussed being conservative on economic issues and very liberal on social issues, noting he loved Mitt Romney as a candidate and even though he supported Bill Clinton, he will not support Hillary.
“I was done with Hillary when the Benghazi scandal came out.”
On gun control: “Do I think gun violence is a problem? Absolutely. Do I think more gun control is an issue? No,” he explained. “I worry about my son when he goes to school because I know it’s a gun-free zone and I know that if someone came in with a firearm there’s nobody there to stop him.
“I would love to have a conceal-carry permit because I’d like to be the person who would stop somebody in that situation.”
He’s been vocal, tweeting after the resignation of Press Secretary Jay Carney.
Bye Jay Carney @PressSec … take @statedeptspox with you. You guys are embarrassing… #SpeakTruth – @RealDeanCain
