‘Deadpool’ gets a director for ‘total reboot’ ‘irreverent and violent’
To keep pace with the rash of news for Warner Bros. and DC’s “Dark Knight Rises”, Marvel confirmed Saturday that “Deadpool”, starring Ryan Reynolds now has a director.
Tim Miller has been brought in by 20th Century FOX to revamp the Deadpool character for the big screen, according to the report by Empire Magazine.
Producer Lauren Schuler Donner says, “It’s a total reboot. We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen, or mock it, which he could do. It’s insane, it’s definitely comedy. But it’s an R script, it’s really irreverent and violent. Right away, we’re out of the X-Men world.” By reboot she obviously means that we won’t have to worry about what “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” did to sully the name of Deadpool and the films couldn’t be more different in tone and execution.1
The film, officially titled “X-Men Origins: Deadpool” will return Reynolds to a script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Zombieland”). Miller has a long list of work in visual effects: “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, “Night at the Museum” and more specifically, he worked on “X2” the second Bryan Singer X-Men film.
Miller also created and owns Blur Studios which produces many video game trailers.
